The FTCE General Knowledge Test is a basic skills exam with subtests covering Mathematics, Reading, English Language Skills and an Essay. The Mathematics, Reading, and English Language Skills sections are comprised entirely of multiple-choice questions. For the Essay subtest candidates need to write one essay on a topic presented.
Mathematics covers Number Sense, Concepts, and Operations; Geometry and Measurement; Algebraic Thinking and the Coordinate Plane; and Probability, Statistics and Data Interpretation.
Reading covers Key Ideas and Details; Craft and Structure; and Integration of Information and Ideas.
English Language Skills covers Language Structure; Vocabulary Application; and Standard English Conventions.
An on-screen four-function calculator is provided.
