When selecting your CBEST test date, ensure you have enough time to prepare. Start by viewing our free CBEST Study Guide for a list of the topics that appear on your exam. Then take a free CBEST Practice Test, which includes a diagnostic breakdown of your strengths and weaknesses in each topic area. This will help you determine how much preparation you need.

If you wish to take the CBEST at a testing center, computer-based testing is available year-round by appointment, Monday through Saturday (excluding some holidays), on a first-come, first-served basis. Alternatively, online-proctored testing is offered remotely and is available by appointment during one-week testing windows each month. Dates for all forms of testing are provided below.
Not all testing centers are open on all dates and registration policies may apply. All test-takers should visit the official CBEST testing service website (www.ctcexams.nesinc.com) to confirm test dates, registration procedures and testing requirements.

Passing the CBEST is one of the main ways prospective teachers meet the basic skills requirements for a California teaching credential. Many teacher preparation programs require that you pass the CBEST before being admitted. It is also typically required for substitute teaching, as well as for a service credential.
Begin by learning the deadline your prospective employer or educational institution requires you to pass by. Then take a look at the current CBEST test dates and results release schedule.
Make sure you also allow time to retake the test if you do not achieve a passing score on your first attempt. You may retake the exam as many times as needed, but keep in mind that you must wait 45 calendar days between attempts.
